About the Wood

Manor Wood is a 10 acre ancient woodland set within the Cambridgeshire countryside, near the village of Grafham.

The wood is refuge for wildlife including many species that are in decline across the UK. The site is rich in history with evidence of human activity at Manor Wood since the stone age.

In the 1950’s, like many other UK woodlands, large areas of Manor Wood were felled and replanted with non native conifer trees. Lack of management has led to overcrowded areas of trees which are susceptible to disease.

Our goal is to bring Manor Wood back into management using a hybrid of traditional forestry and conservation practices. By selectively felling and planting trees we aim to increase the diversity of habitats, species and structure to make the woodland more resilient. Using timber harvested from woodland management we make and showcase wide range of woodland products and traditional crafts.

Who We Are

We are a woodland education business that is committed to conserving wildlife while offering experiences that engage people with the natural world. We are part of a new woodland culture which celebrates woodlands for their economic, social and ecological value.

About Us

We are Matt and Emma, the owners of Manor Wood. We share a vision in which woodlands are experienced by everyone, serving as thriving habitats for wildlife as a result of human interaction. Manor Wood is the culmination of this vision, a demonstration of the positive impact people can have on their environment.

Matt has spent the last several years working in outdoor education and wildlife conservation. He has worked extensively across nature reserves and educational settings, inspiring people of all ages with his love for the great outdoors. When he isn't teaching, Matt spends his time managing the woodland and enjoys rainy days in the workshop creating things for Manor Wood.

Emma is a veterinary nurse with a love for nature and the outdoors, which she shares at Manor Wood. Emma enjoys connecting with people and coordinating events. Emma manages the administration side of Manor Wood, including bookings, enquiries and all online platforms.
